Update on Baldwinsville fire -- How to help

Posted Date: 1/25/25 (3:54 PM)

Update at 4:48 p.m.

We had an amazing response to our donation drive this afternoon. Our room started to fill up with donations within the first 10 minutes. There was a steady line of people dropping off donations the entire two hours. We are so grateful for everyone who donated. Thank you! This is such an amazing community.
Due to the overwhelming amount of donations we received, we are now only looking for donations of non-perishable food items, new items and gift cards. We need to fully assess what we have already received in gently used items before we receive any more gently used donations.
As always, thank you for your support of our district’s families! Go Bees!

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Staff,

We know many people in our community are looking for ways to help those families who lost their homes to the devastating fire last night at New Legacy Apartments. We have eight students and their families impacted by this tragedy. Many lost everything they own in the fire. Our district wants to help our families by collecting donations. Donations can be dropped off from 2 to 4 p.m. today, Saturday, January 25th and 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Sunday, January 26th at the District Operations Building, which is located on the main campus. The building is located next to the District Office in the former Transportation Center at 29 East Oneida Street from Albert Palmer Lane.

We will be collecting donations for families of students in grades K, 3, 6, 9, and 10. The donations requested included:

  • winter clothing items (child and adult sizes of coats, snow pants, hats, gloves, boots)

  • clothing (child and adult sizes in new or gently used condition)

  • footwear and socks (child and adult sizes of boots, sneakers, etc)

  • personal care hygiene items (soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, etc)

  • towels

  • blankets

  • diapers and wipes

  • non-perishable food items

Please email support@bville.org if you have questions. As we learn more, we will communicate additional information to support our families and the other community members impacted by the fire.

Sincerely,

Dr. Joseph M. DeBarbieri

Superintendent of Schools
