Elden Staff and Students

Dear Elden Students, Families, and Staff:

Good Morning!

What another great week we had at Elden! Our Buddy Walk was a wonderful celebration in honor of Down Syndrome Awareness Month, and it was heartwarming to see our students showing their school pride throughout Spirit Week. Thank you to everyone who helped make both events so special!

This week, we’re looking forward to bullying prevention presentations with Christina DeCaro on Monday, and to our Community Café on Thursday at 6:00 p.m., where we’ll come together to discuss our Bee Respectful, Bee Responsible, and Bee Safe behavior matrix. We hope our Elden community will join us for this meaningful conversation.

Please also remember there will be no school on Tuesday for parent-teacher conferences.

Elden Community Cafe:

From Hive to Sky: How Eagles Live the 3 Bees

We are excited to host a Community Café event on Thursday, November 6th, 2025 from 6:00–7:00 p.m. in the Elden APR.

This year, we have a schoolwide focus on our new Behavior Matrix, which supports students in learning what it means to Bee Respectful, Bee Responsible, and Bee Safe in every setting. That is why we have chosen the evening’s topic to be:

From Hive to Sky: How Eagles Live the 3 Bees.

Through dialogue, guiding questions, and collaborative activities, we will explore this topic together—reflecting on how our shared expectations help create a positive, supportive learning community for all Eagles.

The evening is open to all Elden Elementary School parents and guardians.

We ask that those interested in attending register using this form

Elden Lost and Found:

Are You Missing Anything?

Once again our lost and found is overflowing with items. Our goal is always to reconnect our students with their items before sending them to be donated.

If your student is missing anything, please email Mrs. Ellis at lellis@bville.org with a description of the item. She will look through the lost and found, and if the item is there, she will make sure it goes home with your student.

You can also remind students to check the tables in the main hallway on their way by!

Intramurals with Mr. Cataldi:

Intramural Sign Up

Similar to previous years, we are excited to offer intramurals led by our PE teacher. This year, Mr. Cataldi will be taking the lead and looks forward to welcoming students in grades 3, 4, and 5 on Wednesday mornings from 8:00–8:30 a.m. in the Elden Gymnasium.

If your student would like to participate, please sign up here.

Staff Spotlight:

Emma Manning

Emma Manning, Kindergarten

Hi everyone! I’m Emma Manning, and I’m a kindergarten special education teacher here at Elden now in my 6th year. Before becoming a special education teacher, I began my career as a teaching assistant at Little Luke’s and later continued that role at Reynolds Elementary School.

I grew up in Baldwinsville and graduated from B’ville schools in 2012, so teaching in this community truly feels like coming full circle. My mom is a speech pathologist, and my dad is a special education teacher.

Before I found my path in education, I was a competitive gymnast for 13 years. I played collegiate lacrosse for four years, starting at Onondaga Community College before transferring to Lake Erie College in Ohio, where I competed at the Division II level.

I have an older brother named Nicholas (but we all call him Niko).

The Positivity Project:

P2

P2 Weekly Character Traits

This week, our school community will focus on the character strength of Bravery. Bravery means you act with mental, moral, or physical strength, even when you know things are difficult or scary.

Bravery refers to voluntary (not coerced) action in the face of a dangerous circumstance. This strength involves judgment; the brave person must have an understanding of the risks and consequences involved in acting. According to Socrates and Plato, forethought separates acts of valor from acts of rashness. This means that bravery isn’t simply fearlessness but instead the overcoming of fear.

Overcoming fears is critically important in individual development, as it allows the person to do more and become more. A person can be brave every single day. For example, some people with social anxiety are brave just by leaving their houses and talking with people. On a physical level, bravery allows us to overcome fears, such as swimming or playing a sport. And, on a moral level, doing what we know to be right, despite the risks, gives us the sense that we are acting on behalf of a larger purpose.
