Dear Elden Students, Families, and Staff:

Good Morning!

Last week was a full week of learning at Elden! Our second graders enjoyed a special walk to Baker High School, where they had the opportunity to judge the door decorating contest, and our third, fourth, and fifth graders practiced for NYS assessment time by participating in the CBT simulation.

As we look ahead to this week, we are excited to welcome families to our Beginner Band and Orchestra Concert and to celebrate a fun Spirit Week planned by members of Elden’s Principal’s Council. I am excited for another engaging and memorable week!

Winter Olympics Family Photo Collection

We are excited to celebrate a Math Winter Olympics theme during the month of February! We would love to feature our students on a bulletin board and/or during morning announcements.

We invite families to submit:
  • A photo of your child playing a sport or participating in a fun winter activity
  • One short sentence explaining how your child uses math in that sport
  • (For example: “I count my laps when I swim” or “I keep track of the score when I play basketball.”)
Please submit your photo and sentence using this form:  [ SUBMIT PHOTOS HERE ]

Photos and statements may be shared on a school bulletin board and/or during morning announcements throughout February.

Thank you for helping us show students how math is used in real life — on the field, court, ice, and beyond!

Waite Family

Kim Waite, 5th Grade Teacher

Hi everyone! I am in my 26th year of teaching at Elden, with all but one of those years spent in fifth grade. One of my favorite parts of teaching fifth grade is math. I enjoy challenging students with complex problems and helping them develop strong problem-solving skills.

Outside of the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my family. I have been married to my husband, Rob, for 25 years. Our daughter, Lexi, is a nursing student at Le Moyne College, and our son, Jack, is an accounting and finance major at Le Moyne College as well. As a family, we love being outdoors—walking, hiking, and playing pickleball. We also spend a great deal of time at our camp in Clayton, where we enjoy boating and relaxing together.

The Positivity Project:

P2

P2 Weekly Character Traits

This week, our school community will focus on the character strength of Love. Love means you value close relationships with others and being close to people.

Love is shown through our thoughts, feelings, and actions toward those we care about. When we love someone, we comfort them, make them feel safe, support them during tough times, and often put their needs before our own. When someone loves us, we feel safe and secure and can be ourselves around them. We miss them when they are not around.

Love is important for our community and society. We all depend on each other for happiness and well-being. Love creates positive feelings, helping to reduce loneliness, anxiety, and depression. Without love, we can't form strong bonds with our families, friends, or communities. A world without love would be a lonely and unsafe place.
